BIRD ISLAND -- The Milroy Yankees broke open a close game with a six-run eighth inning on the way to burning Bird Island 9-1 on Wednesday night in a Cornbelt South amateur league baseball game.
The win moved the Yankees to 7-0 in league and 8-1 overall. The Islanders fell to 2-5 all in league.
Eric Dolan led the Yankees offense with four hits. Benn Aaseth had half of of Bird Island's six hits.
Ryan Rohlick checked the Islanders on one hit through five innings.
Starter Jesse Bjur kept it close, 3-0, until the eighth when the Yankees broke loose against him and then reliever Brad Gass.

Ryan Walsh led the Chuckers (5-3) with two run-scoring singles, one in the fourth inning and the other in the sixth.
Abel West slugged a two-run homer for Kingston. Ryan Dietz drove in three runs with a pair of singles.
