ATWATER -- Fueled by an 18-hit attack, Willmar stayed alive in the Cornbelt South playoffs by upending Atwater 10-6 Sunday evening.

Atwater (10-13) had beaten Willmar 3-1 in the opener last Wednesday, but the Rails (9-9) struck early and often the second time around to eliminate the Chuckers. The Rails will play at Bird Island in an elimination game on Wednesday.

Alex Marcus, Jordan Olson and Cory Schwantes all had three hits while Zach Horning, Lane Kleist, Matt Sagedahl and Steve Wetterling had two apiece for the Rails.

Willmar got 10 hits and four runs off losing pitcher Michael Malvin in four-plus innings. Malvin held the Rails to just six hits in his complete-game win Wednesday in Atwater.

Already ahead 5-2, the Rails got insurance in the seventh with RBI singles from Mark Krogstad, Marcus and Horning and an RBI double from Olson.

The Chuckers closed the gap to 9-5 in the bottom half of the frame when Malvin doubled and scored on the play after Willmar committed an error on the cutoff throw and Matt Tanner singled in two runs.
