CHOKIO -- Chris Braaten had three hits and drove in two runs and Spencer Almen also knocked in two runs while striking out nine on the mound to help Kerkhoven upend Chokio 8-4 in an American Legion baseball game Tuesday.
Braaten (RBI single) and Almen (RBI groundout) gave Kerkhoven a quick 3-0 lead in the top half of the first before Chokio plated two runs in the bottom half.
Kerkhoven (10-2) then got some insurance for Almen in the third when it produced three runs behind a double from Brant Beckman and singles from Almen and Luke Johnson.
Almen scattered nine hits and two walks over seven complete innings to pick up the win.
Braaten also grounded out in the sixth to drive in another run. Luke Johnson and Justin Johnson added two hits each.
