Dayton to visit Paynesville Area, RCW schools

RENVILLE -- Sen. Mark Dayton will visit Paynesville Area and Renville County West schools Thursday morning.

Dayton will present his Award for Excellence in Education to each district.

Dayton will be at Paynesville from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. He will meet with a group of students for an open discussion before the award presentation.

He will visit the RCW High School in Renville from 11 to 11:25 a.m. Thursday and the elementary school in Sacred Heart from 11:40 a.m. to noon. Dayton will answer questions at the assembly at the high school.

Dayton's award was created to recognize individual success stories and schools that go above and beyond expectations in educating students, improving scholastic performance and enriching young lives.

An award ceremony will take place at each school, and the public is invited to attend.

Willmar Avenue lane closures set for boulevard work

WILLMAR -- Lanes will be temporarily closed on Willmar Avenue Southeast between Fourth Street and 12th Street while work on the boulevards is under way.

The work will be completed during the next three to four weeks, said Bradley DeWolf, an engineer with Bolton & Menk Inc. of Willmar, the consultants on the Willmar Avenue reconstruction project.

DeWolf encourages pedestrians to avoid the work areas until construction is finished.

Republicans to hold 7th District convention

WILLMAR -- Republicans in the 7th Congressional District will hold their endorsing convention on April 28 and 29 in Willmar.

The convention will be held at the Kandi Entertainment Center.

The public is invited to attend the banquet April 28. Cost is $30 per person and includes the meal, entertainment and speakers.

The convention begins at 9 a.m. April 29, when delegates will endorse a candidate for the 7th District seat in Congress and consider platform resolutions.

The 7th District seat is currently held by Democrat Collin Peterson. Michael Barrett, a pharmacist from Long Prairie, is seeking the Republican endorsement.
