WILLMAR - The West Central Achievement and Integration Collaborative will host a three-day math fair next week at the Willmar Civic Center.
The purpose of the fair is to show students the importance of math in a variety of careers. The collaborative is a cooperative of area school districts working to increase student achievement in math and close achievement gaps.
School districts involved in the effort are Willmar, Montevideo, New London-Spicer, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, MACCRAY, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City and BOLD.
Area businesses have been invited to attend the fair and show exhibits about how they use math and science in their daily work and what a student would need to study to do that work.
On Monday, sixth-graders from the districts will attend the fair. Seventh-graders will attend on Tuesday and eighth-graders on Wednesday. The fair will run from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.
Students will visit with exhibitors and go on scavenger hunts to find ways exhibitors use a variety of math concepts.
