ATWATER -- The Atwater Fire Department will receive a $92,644 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to purchase new safety equipment.
The city was notified last week that it had received the grant, said City Clerk Goldie Smith.
The money will be used to purchase 25 self-contained breathing apparatus units for each of the department's firefighters.
At its meeting on Wednesday, the Atwater City Council advised Fire Chief Gerald Schwartz to find a department that could use the old units.
The city must contribute $4,876 to the purchase of the units.
