Atwater woman wins $25,000 on ‘Price Is Right’ TV game show

ATWATER - Linda Marshall, a local contestant on “The Price Is Right” television game show, won $25,000 playing Punch-a-Bunch with Drew Carey in the episode that aired Thursday.
Marshall, a travel director who resides in Atwater part-time with her parents, correctly identified whether the retail price was lower or higher than advertised on four small items, earning her four punches on the game board. She used these punches to break four paper covers that hide a cash value from $100 to $25,000. The slips are shown to the contestant in the order they are punched and the contestant can attempt to trade a lower cash value in for a higher value in the next tube. If the following value turns out to be lower, the contestant must keep the lower number.
Much to Marshall’s and Drew Carey’s surprise, Marshall punched the tube with the $25,000 card on the first try.
“I was just totally floored, and I think Drew was as well,” said Marshall in an interview after the show aired on Thursday. “Drew Carey said that this is the first time in the history of the show that a contestant has picked the $25,000 tube on the first try, it is a 1 in 50 chance.”
Marshall says she has been getting congratulatory messages from friends and family since the episode aired on Thursday. Even though Marshall has yet to see the episode she is in, she is planning to make sure her parents saw the show since they were her initial inspiration for getting onto the game show.
