MONTEVIDEO -- Avis Viola Hendrickson, 83, of Montevideo, died Friday at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Burial will be at Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be this afternoon and evening with the family present from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
She was born on Oct. 30, 1923, in Lac qui Parle Village, Lac qui Parle County, to Sophus and Anna (Haugen) Steffenson. She grew up in rural Lac qui Parle County, where she attended rural schools. She attended Milan Public Schools and graduated from Milan High School in 1941. She took teacher training at Windom College in Montevideo and taught in rural schools in Lac qui Parle County for several years.

On Jan. 25, 1947, she married Sheldon Hendrickson in Boyd. They lived in the Milan area, where she worked in the Milan Schools. They moved to Montevideo in 1968, where she worked at Innovex for many years. She had been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home for the past five months. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
She is survived by six children, Sharon (and Ronald) Cramlet of Atwater, Ardis (and Bob) Johnson of Wayzata, Rodney (and Jo) Hendrickson of Quitman, Texas, Ellen (and Todd) Hendrickson-Peterson of West Chester, Pa., Catherine (and Steve) Strand of Montevideo, and Mark (and Rommell) Hendrickson of Elk River; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a sister, Sylvia Anderson of Montevideo.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987 and by a great grandson.
