BENSON -- Just three days after Benson City Councilman Robert Claussen reportedly lost his council seat, the city of Benson Friday announced that a counting error has been discovered which changes the election results.
The city Friday declared Claussen the victor by a 10-vote margin of 239 votes over challenger Benjamin Hess' 229 votes.
According to a press release from City Clerk Glen Pederson, a review of the totals counted on Tuesday pointed to Hess as the winner. But a review of the vote totals Wednesday found that the total votes counted for the seat exceeded the total number of votes cast.
Prior to the correction, the city office had reported Hess as the winner with 265 votes to Claussen's 239 votes.
