Baseball: LQPV drubs YME, 8-4; maintains two-game lead

MADISON -- The Lac qui Parle Valley Eagles strengthed their grip on the top rung with an 8-4 victory Thursday over Yellow Medicine East in West Central South Conference baseball.

The Sting, who trailed LQPV by two games going in, dropped another notch to 3-3 and into a second-place tie with Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City.

The Eagles sprayed 14 hits. Eddie Massee went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and a single. Matt Enger single and doubled for three RBI and Tony Ludvigson singled and doubled twice.

Ryan Sigdahl went the first five innings for the win, allowing four hits. Massee finished up, throwing two hitless innings.

Jarett Berg crashed a solo home run for the Sting in the second. Luke Berg added a double. Corey Hegna took the loss, pitching into the fifth.

The Falcons scored six runs on one hit -- a single by Vance Martin, helped by two Benson errors and four walks from Benson starter Aaron Hagen.

Justin Schroeder batted in three runs for Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, two on ground outs and one on a triple.


ACGC's Michael Martin went the distance giving up four hits and a first-inning unearned run.

Morris held on to win the first meeting ever of these two school districts in baseball. BOLD scored four runs in the top of the seventh and had the bases loaded before the threat was extinguished by reliever Chase Rambow, the third pitcher in the inning who got the final out with a strikeout.

The first eight batters in the Tigers' lineup had one hit each and No. 9 hitter Tony Schultz had two.


Stephen Engelman doubled twice for BOLD and Ross Okins was 3-for-4.

Winning pitcher Craig Knochenmus pitched into the seventh inning for Morris, striking out 11.
