Baseball: LQPV tops Morris as Massee hurls two-hitter

MADISON -- Eddie Massee spun a two-hitter and Lac qui Parle Valley scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out a 2-0 win over Morris Area in West Central South Conference action Tuesday.

Massee walked none and struck out five, outdueling Andy Lembcke, who also pitched a two-hitter.

Adam Paulson reached second an error leading off the sixth inning for the Eagles. He moved to third on a groundout. Ryan Sigdahl then walked and stole second before both runners scored on an infield error.

Ian Olson's single down the left-field line capped a four-run comeback in the eighth inning for the Sting (2-1, 3-1).

Down 6-3, YME was put into a desperate hole after BOLD's Zach Jorgenson completed an unassisted double play from his shortstop position. But the Sting loaded the bases and tied the game on Cory Hegna's fly ball, which tipped off the a Warriors outfielder's glove.

BOLD (1-1, 2-2) also produced a two-out rally in the eighth, on three straight RBI singles.

Shawn Neu and Mike Brusven led YME with three hits apiece, including a double. Luke Berg added two hits, including a two-run homer in the first.

Ben Aaseth had three hits to lead BOLD.

Peyton Schultz drove in Brady Johnson with the eventual winning run on a single in the third inning for Montevideo (2-1, 3-3). The Thunder Hawks scored three times in the first when Tyler Grey hit an RBI single, Jon Altena scored on a wild pitch and James Gallagher scored on a passed ball.

Tyler Kanten gave up three hits while striking out eight with no walks in seven innings to pick up the win in a game that last only one hour and 19 minutes.

Justin Schroeder drove in two runs with a double in the fourth and a single in the six for Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City (0-2, 3-2). Mike Martin collected a run-scoring single in the fourth for the Falcons.
