MADISON -- Eddie Massee just missed hurling a no-hitter, allowing only a bloop single in the sixth inning as Lac qui Parle Valley blanked Montevideo 9-0 in a West Central South Conference game Tuesday.
LQPV had runners in scoring position in the fifth inning, needing a run to invoke the 10-run rule and secure Massee's no-hitter. But the Eagles were unable to score and Montevideo then got a bloop single by Brady Johnson in the next inning. He was subsequently erased on a double play.
Massee finished with one walk and eight strikeouts, facing just 22 batters.
Andrew Schmidt drove in three runs with a run-scoring single in the first inning and a two-run single in the second.
