PAYNESVILLE -- New London-Spicer knocked off undefeated Paynesville 2-1 in West Central North Conference baseball action Tuesday.
The Wildcats (3-2, 4-2) scored two unearned runs in the sixth inning.
NLS' Mike Danielson and Brian Pieh combined to two-hit the defending state Class AA champions. Danielson pitched the first six innings and gave up one run. He struck out nine without walking a batter. Pieh pitched the seventh for the save, striking out two and walking one.
Jon Hemingson threw shutout ball for the first five innings for Paynesville (4-1, 6-1), but then two errors and Wade Wessling's sacrifice fly put the Wildcats in the lead.
