Beccue files for re-election as Kandiyohi County Attorney.

WILLMAR -- Kandiyohi County Attorney Boyd Beccue filed for re-election to his office Tuesday morning. Beccue has served as Kandiyohi County Attorney since 1991.

WILLMAR -- Kandiyohi County Attorney Boyd Beccue filed for re-election to his office Tuesday morning. Beccue has served as Kandiyohi County Attorney since 1991.

Beccue first joined the Kandiyohi County Attorney's Office in 1979 as an assistant to County Attorney Ron Schneider. He served as an assistant county attorney until 1983, and then was in private practice in Willmar as a partner in the Schneider, Beccue and Kallestad law firm and later as a solo practitioner. During that time he served as the city attorney of Kerkhoven and practiced in areas including litigation, land use, business and contract law.

Beccue was elected county attorney in 1990 following a three-way race with Assistant County Attorney Rick Jackson and local attorney George Hulstrand Jr.

A veteran of the United States Army, Beccue attended law school at the University of Minnesota after his Army discharge in 1975. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with honors in 1979.

Beccue was the 2007 president of the Minnesota County Attorneys Association and remains on the board of directors of the MCAA. He also serves on the board of the MCAA Educational Foundation and is a former member and chairman of the MCAA Criminal Law Committee. He is a member of the National District Attorneys Association and the Minnesota and Kandiyohi County bar associations. He has served as a volunteer judge for Minnesota State Bar Association high school mock trial competitions on many occasions.

In 2003 and 2007 Beccue was an instructor at the MCAA conference for newly elected county attorneys. He has also presented at other educational programs for attorneys.

Beccue is a member of the Willmar American Legion Post 167 and the Kandiyohi County Historical Society, of which he is a past president. He is a member of Ducks Unlimited and was West Central DU chairman in 1987. Beccue was a founding board member of Willmar Cardinal Pride and was a member of the board of directors of the Willmar Blue Line Club. Over the years he has been a Jaycee, a member of Turn In Poachers and many other organizations.

Boyd and his wife, Jane, live in Dovre Township. They have four adult children and four grandchildren, with another on the way.
