ALBANY - A Benson man was injured Monday morning in a collision with a garbage truck 10 miles south of Albany.
According to a news release from the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, Steven Espelien, 54, was transported to the hospital in Paynesville for treatment of injuries after his 1999 Ford Taurus left the roadway, became airborne and landed in a soybean field about 30 feet from the road.
Espelien was trying to avoid colliding with the 2002 West Central garbage truck driven by Chad Robertson, 33, of Willmar, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The news release said Espelien was northbound on Stearns County Road 10 and was approaching the intersection with Royal River Road when Robertson “went through a stop sign into the intersection.”
Assisting at the scene were St. Martin Fire and Rescue, CentraCare Ambulance Service and the Minnesota State Patrol.
