BENSON -- The Benson School Board approved the audit of the 2005-2006 fiscal year at its regular meeting Monday.
The audit provided a positive report on the school district's finances, according to Shelly Johnson, interim superintendent for the district.
"The school district is operating very efficiently," he said. "We are well in the black and happy about that."
The board also discussed options for the second grade class. The class of 86 students is a "bubble" grade, with higher enrollment than other elementary grades, Johnson said. The students are divided into three class sections and the board is considering whether to hire a teacher or an instructional assistant to provide students with additional instruction time in math, reading and language arts. The board referred the matter to Johnson for a review of the financial implications of the two options. Action on the matter is expected at the Dec. 4 boardmeeting.
