BENSON -- The Benson School Board approved changes to the ECFE school readiness preschool program at its regular meeting Monday.

Starting in the fall, parents can chose either two full days or three one-half days of preschool for 4-year-old children, according to district superintendent Lee Westrum. The program is located in North Side Elementary.

Currently, the district offers two sections of half-day preschool.

A survey of parents revealed significant interest in full-day programming, Westrum said. The cost of the full-day classes will be $100 a month, with the half-day program at $65 per month.

The board also discussed, but took no action, on the district's college in high school program, where district teachers teach college level classes and students earn college credits through Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.

The district is considering its options, and talking with technical schools in the area about similar programming, Westrum said. The board could decide on changes to the program at its May 17 meeting.
