OLIVIA -- Bernard Bartes, 83, of Olivia, died Friday at the Olivia Healthcare Center.
The service is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

He was born May 25, 1922, in rural Olivia to John C. and Rose (Swoboda) Bartes. After attending country school he graduated from Olivia High School. He married Lorraine Kodet on Feb. 9, 1943, in Bechyn. They lived and farmed near Bechyn until 1959 when they moved to Olivia. He worked at a feed mill, later for the Elk River Concrete Plant and then was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for many years. He also helped for many years at the Ray Brooks farm. He was an active member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He is survived by his wife; five children: Bev (and Richard) Dummer of Blue Earth, LaVonne (and Robert) Rinke of Clinton, Larry Bartes of Shakopee, Dan Bartes of Olivia and Greg (and Nancy) Bartes of Richmond; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
