GRANITE FALLS -- Berniece Clara Whelan, 35, formerly of Granite Falls, died Monday at the Granite Falls Hospital following complications from asthma.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. Arrangements are by Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls.
She was born June 29, 1972, in Albert Lea to William M. and Dorothy M. (VanRavenhorst) Whelan. She grew up on a farm outside of Clarks Grove and graduated in 1990 from Ellendale-Geneva High School. She later attended College Academy. She worked at the Conoco Station in Rochester. She also worked in the home health care industry.
She is survived by her fiancé: Rob Laden of Marshall; three sons: Judd Whelan of Minneota, Zachary Whelan of Champlin and William Whelan of Champlin; her daughters: June Brown of Minneota, Jorgetta Whelan-Brown of Minneota and LeeAnn Laden of Minneota; her mother of Granite Falls; two brothers: Douglas Whelan of Albert Lea, and Martin Somnis of Clarks Grove; two sisters: Elizabeth Raney of Granite Falls and Marie Stevermer of Granite Falls; and grandmother: Esther VanRavenhorst of Albert Lea.
She was preceded in death by her father, her grandfathers and one grandmother.
