Bicyclist killed when struck by car west of Sartell

SARTELL ­–– A 51-year-old bicyclist was struck by a car and killed Tuesday night west of Sartell.

According to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Department, John Girard Seiler of Sartell was riding a bike on County Road 2 in Wendel Township when he was struck from behind by a car driven by Judy Ranson Post, 73, of Pasadena, Calif.

According to the police report, it’s believed Seiler was going north on the east shoulder of County Road 2 when he was struck from the rear by a 2012 Ford Edge that had drifted onto the shoulder of the road.

Seiler was thrown from his bike and into the ditch.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation and the State Patrol reconstructing the crash.

The St. Joseph Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance assisted at the scene.
