PAYNESVILLE –– The Paynesville Police Department said today that the body of an Isanti County man who was the subject of a manhunt last month has been found.
Ryan Gean Clover, 28, who had been sought by numerous law enforcement agencies around the state for being a non-compliant predatory offender, was found dead Tuesday in an unoccupied home in the city of Paynesville.
The preliminary autopsy found Clover died of asphyxia as a result of hanging.
The death was determined to be suicide, according to a news release from Paynesville Police Chief Paul Wegner.
Last month more than a dozen state and local law enforcement officers, including the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, converged in Paynesville during an extensive search for Clover, who was wanted on several felony warrants.
After escaping an arrest in Paynesville following a brief scuffle with law enforcement, Clover had been tracked to a wooded area along the Crow River.
He had allegedly broken into a home in Paynesville, where a friend reportedly lived, and was tracked again by law enforcement but was not found.
There had been no confirmed sighting of him since Aug. 27 and law enforcement did not know if Clover was still in the area or not.
On Tuesday a property inspection company representative entered a vacant property in the 400 block of West Mill Street to conduct a monthly inspection and saw Clover’s body in the stairway of the residence.
Officers who responded to the scene noticed signs of entry through a side window on the property.
After obtaining a search warrant, officers searched the property and the body was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office, which positively identified the body as that of Clover, whose last known address was in Isanti County.
