OLIVIA — A recount will be held in the BOLD School Board race.

John Dotson, who finished in fifth place for four school board positions, has asked for a recount. The candidate is the district's former superintendent.

BOLD School Board members approved the recount at their meeting on Monday. The recount will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Dotson finished fifth with 1,031 votes, behind incumbent Traci Buchtel with a total of 1,050 votes. The 19-vote difference is within the range where a recount can be requested and must be performed at the district’s expense, Superintendent Dale Brandsoy told board members at the meeting.

Based on the number of total votes cast in the Nov. 3 election, any vote margin of 48 or less qualifies for a recount and is required if requested by a candidate, he said.

Trailing in vote totals were John Dotson, 1,031; Jeff Benson, 973; Dennis Berg, 968; Linda Rham, 886; and Karen Flom, 882. Sagedahl, Buchtel, and Benson ran as incumbents.
