MONTEVIDEO -- Montevideo broke out of its two-game losing streak with its second-half defense to beat Morris 74-61 in West Central South Conference action Thursday.
The Thunder Hawks (8-1, 14-3) couldn't slow down the Tigers' Taylor Witt in the first half, as he put up 21 points. But after halftime, Montevideo clamped down on him, allowing just eight.
Montevideo also made 54 percent (29 of 54) of its shots from the field and 6 of 13 from three-point range.
Jon Altena had three of the Thunder Hawks' treys and finished with a team-high 26 points, followed closely by Tyler Grey with 24. Nolan Jasperson dominated the glass, grabbing 12 rebounds. Zach Bothun added seven boards.
Tyler Wiegman of Morris, who missed the last two games with an injury, added 10 points to Witt's 29.

The Braves (7-2, 13-3) had enough offense to hold off the Warriors (1-9, 3-16) and stay one game behind Montevideo in the conference standings.
Daniel Fragodt was one of four Benson players in double figures with 24 points. Jesse Holm posted 11 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double. Joey Fragodt added 22 points, including all four of Benson's four 3-pointers, and Tyler Guest had 13 points.

Jake Brustuen led BOLD with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Zach Marcus added 12 points and nine boards, Reid Neubauer had 12 points and Ben Saunders 10.

Lac qui Parle Valley (3-6, 10-8) owned a 14-point lead at one point in the first half, but Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City (5-5, 10-7) went to a zone on defense to rally.
Michael Martin led the charge for the Falcons with a game-high 32 points. Justin Schroeder followed with 19 and Micah Nordin had 12. Martin pulled down eight rebounds and had seven steals.

Brady VanderVelde scored 27 points for LQPV and grabbed seven rebounds. Adam Paulson, who made all five of the Eagles' three-pointers, added 19 points and R.J. Strand had 15. Adam Schmidt also pulled down seven rebounds.
