MONTEVIDEO -- Benson spoiled Montevideo's attempt at a perfect West Central South Conference boys basketball season, beating the Thunder Hawks, 79-74, on the road Thursday.
The Braves (8-6, 10-11) held a 41-38 halftime lead and cuffed Montevideo (12-1, 20-3) on the perimeter -- the Thunder Hawks made only 3-of-17 from three-point range -- and kept them off the free-throw line (5 of 6).
Benson made three free throws to seal the win.
Aaron Lindal and Mitchell Kent scored 26 and 23 points, respectively, for the Braves. Brennan Kent added 15 points. Lindahl grabbed eight rebounds and had seven assists.
Tramel Barnes scored 19 points to lead Montevideo. Tyler Grey added 12, Nolan Jaspersen had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Todd Bergeson had 10 points.

Andrew Whitchurch and Steve Hendrickson scored 12 points each to lead the Dragons, who made a two-point basket at the end of the game for the final score.
