CLARA CITY -- The West Central South Conference earned bragging rights for a year as the loop won the Boys Basketball Challenge against teams from the Camden North Conference Saturday.
BOLD beat Renville County West 62-52 in the first game to give the West Central South a 1-0 lead. But the Camden North scored consecutive victories as Dawson-Boyd edged Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 78-75 and Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg topped Yellow Medicine East 64-57 for a 2-1 advantage.
The final game of the night was worth two points and Benson defeated MACCRAY 69-61 for the South win. All the West Central South Conference players received a championship t-shirt.
Ian Hansen of Dawson-Boyd was the three-point shooting champion.

Benson (14-9) led by as many as 18 points at one time before MACCRAY stormed back to cut it to a two-point deficit with four minutes remaining. But the Braves held on for the win, hitting their free throws down the stretch.
