Boys Basketball: Leese's hot hand triggers MACCRAY win over CMCS

CLARA CITY -- Matt Leese missed only one shot in the second half and scored 21 points to help MACCRAY fend off Central Minnesota Christian 78-64 in a Camden Conference game Thursday.

Leese was 7-for-8 from the field in the final 18 minutes and 10-for-15 overall. The Wolverines, who owned a slim 30-28 lead at halftime, also got 15 points from Ben Perry, 14 from Zach Thissen and 13 from Justin Koenen, who also piled up 11 assists and eight rebounds.

CMCS had three players score in double figures with Andy Groen leading the way with 17 points. Derrick Bulthuis followed with 15 and Mike Schwitters 13. Jordan Zondervan hooked a game-high 12 rebounds with Schwitters grabbing 11 more.

Four players scored in double figures for the Bulldogs in their conference opener, led by Cory Nietfeld with 30. He posted a double-double with 11 rebounds.

Colin Spooner followed with 18, Ben Moser had 15 and Nathan Nietfeld 11 as Paynesville dominated the second half over Albany, 53-17.
