Boys Basketball: MACCRAY throttles Lakeview to pull into virtual tie for Camden North lead

CLARA CITY -- MACCRAY moved into a tie for the lead in the Camden North Conference by upending Lakeview 69-61 Tuesday.

MACCRAY (7-3, 9-5), which led by as much as 20, pulled into a virtual tie for the lead in the conference.

Justin Koenen had 15 points, Zach Thissen 13 and Jay Hilbrands 12 to ignite the Wolverines, who overcame a 9-for-21 performance at the free-throw line in the second half. Lakeview (8-3, 10-7) had gotten within two late, but MACCRAY went on a 6-1 run to end the game.

Koenen also added six assists and five steals while Hilbrands piled up six rebounds and four steals.

The Bluejays (1-10, 1-14) earned their first win of the season with a 32-point second half, while the defense held the Jaguars (1-10, 2-13) to just 15.

Jordon Daugherty led CMCS with 13 points. Jordan Zondervan and Derrick Bulthuis added 10 apiece. Andy Groen grabbed eight rebounds.

Brent Jansen scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for RCW. Nate Johannsen added eight rebounds.
