MELROSE -- Melrose took the top spot in the West Central North boys basketball standings alone by dumping New London-Spicer, 60-49, Friday.
The Dutchmen (6-1, 10-2) controlled the first half, taking a 38-26 advantage at the break, then cruised in the second half.
The Wildcats (5-2, 9-4) didn't fare as well in the second half, scoring just 21 points.
Curt Bertram and Seth Gieske scored 16 and 12 points, respectively, for Melrose.
Chris Tengwall netted a season-high 13 points and Wade Powers added 11 points for NLS.

Minnewaska 62, LPGE 45
Jordan Hendricks scored 23 points and Jordan Johnsrud added 13 as the Lakers (3-4, 6-7) pulled away in the second half, outscoring LPGE (2-4, 2-10) 31-18.
Hendricks sank six of Minnewaska's eight 3-pointers and had six assists. Johnsrud and Jon Hoffmann grabbed six rebounds each.

The Bulldogs (6-2, 9-3) knocked the Mainstreeters (4-2, 8-4) out of the tie for the conference lead.
Cory Nietfeld posted a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Paynesville. He also had six steals. Ben Moser scored a game-high 24 points and had nine boards.
