Boys Basketball: Monte repels Morris for 12th straight win

MONTEVIDEO -- Montevideo stayed unbeaten in West Central South boys basketball action, holding off Morris 72-66 Thursday.

The Tigers (6-4, 9-9) led 59-51 in the second half, but went through a nine-minute scoring drought to bring the Thunder Hawks (9-0, 16-1) back into the game.

The teams were tied at 66 when Eric Brandon sank four straight free throws to ice the game, giving the Thunder Hawks their 12th straight win.

Montevideo shot 54 percent (27 of 50) from the field, but only 20 percent (2 of 10) from three-point range. Tyler Grey led the team with 23 points. Brandon collected a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Nolan Jaspersen followed with 13 points and seven boards.

Morris' Taylor Witt countered with 22 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Craig Knochenmus added 14 points and Justin Lund had 12.

Adam Paulson went 8-for-13 from three-point range and 8-for-9 at the free-throw line en route to netting a game-high 34 points for Lac qui Parle Valley (7-2, 12-4). Paulson made four 3-pointers in each half and was 9-for-15 overall from the field. Matt Enger added 11 points for the Eagles.

The Falcons (3-7, 10-10) got 19 points from Justin Schroeder, 17 from Jordan Tanner, 15 from Bryce Thorp and 10 from Matt Stradtmann. LQPV was 23-for-37 from the charity stripe while ACGC was 15-for-20.

Benson rolled to a 52-29 first-half lead and shot 78 percent from the free-throw line making 26-of-33 attempts.

Daniel Fragodt led with 21 points followed by Mitch Enderson with 14, Jesse Holm and Erick Lee with 12 each and Peter Hughes with nine.

Holm had 12 rebounds; 21 of Benson's 48 rebounds were on the offensive boards.
