Boys Basketball: Montevideo surges past YME

MONTEVIDEO -- Yellow Medicine East led West Central South Conference champion Montevideo for a majority of the second half until Nolan Jaspersen scored on a layup with 10 seconds left as the Thunder Hawks edged YME 77-74 Tuesday.

Montevideo (11-1, 19-2) forced a turnover after Jaspersen's layup and sealed the win with two free throws from Tyler Grey, who finished with a game-high 22 points.

The Thunder Hawks also got 20 points from Tramel Barnes and 10 more from Jaspersen, who also hooked eight rebounds.

YME (4-8, 9-12) had just five players score, but all were in double figures led by Kenton Johnson's 21 points. Casey Luepke followed with 20, Dylan Hempel 12, Shawn Neu 11 and Taylor Tollefson 10.

Benson (7-5, 15-9) went on a 10-0 run just under the halfway point of the second half to take control. The Braves, who led by Daniel Fragodt's 23 points, outscored LQPV (8-4, 15-6) 48-34 in the second half after going 19-for-30 from the field and committing just one turnover.

The Braves also got 14 points from Mitch Enderson, 13 from Jessy Holm and 10 from Aaron Lindahl. Fragodt, Enderson and Holm combined to net 37 points in the second half.

Phil Rotunda had 15 points, Caleb DuFrane 13 and Adam Paulson 11 to pace the Eagles. DuFrane hooked 11 rebounds to post a double-double.

(Overtime) -- Morris (8-4, 12-9) cashed 10-of-14 free throws in overtime to outlast the Falcons (3-8, 10-13).

In all, the Tigers sank 31-of-40 shot from the free-throw line, while ACGC hit 17-of-31.

Taylor Witt pumped in 26 points and had 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals to pace Morris. Craig Knochenmus notched 19 points and 12 rebounds. Justin Lund added 10 points.

For ACGC, Joey Slinden and Jordan Tanner had 12 points each and Kyle Johnson 10.
