Boys Basketball: Montevideo thumps CMCS

MONTEVIDEO -- Tyler Grey had 19 points to lead four players in double figures as Montevideo topped Central Minnesota Christian 92-41 in a non-conference boys basketball game Saturday.

Todd Bergeson had 16 points, four assists and three steals for the Thunder Hawks. Trammel Barnes chipped in with 14 points, 11 assists and four steals. Nolan Jasperson notched 10 points and six rebounds.

The Bluejays, who trailed at halftime 51-19, came up got 14 points from Mike Switters and nine each by Jordan Zondervan and Jake Leenstra.

The Thunder Hawks (2-0), who broke the century mark in their opener, made 39-of-70 field goal attempts (49 percent), including nine 3-pointers.

Milbank 69, Morris 68

Lance Frogner beat Morris with a three-pointer at the buzzer for the second straight year.

Craig Knochenmus, who had a team-high 21 points, connected on a three-pointer for Morris with 40 seconds remaining in regulation, sending the game into overtime when Milbank played for a final shot and missed.

Aaron Lund of Morris cashed a free throw at the end of the first overtime to send the game into another extra session.

Morris nearly pulled off a third heroic when Taylor Witt scored with 3.2 seconds left in the second overtime, giving the Tigers a 68-66 lead.

Frogner then sped upcourt and let a shot fly just over the halfcourt line and it banked in to win the game.

Frogner finished with 21 points. Jeff Fish had 22 points for Milbank.

Witt led Morris with 19 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Lund notched 14 points.

Mike Felt poured in 30 points and the Cardinals bolted to a 33-0 lead to start the game and never looked back.

Cedar Mountain came out to start the game with a press and Redwood Valley continually broke it for easy layups.

Dan Bonebright nearly had a triple-double with 14 points, 13 rbounds and eight assists. Mahlon Zimmerman added 15 points.
