REDWOOD FALLS -- Sophomore Mike Felt drained five 3-pointers en route to scoring a game-high 31 points and Dan Bonebright added 23 more points for Redwood Valley as the Cardinals outlasted Montevideo 81-76 in a non-conference battle of unbeatens Friday.
Redwood Valley (6-0) reached its season average of 81 points a game, but the Thunder Hawks (4-1) fell 12 points shy of theirs as the Cardinals shot just under 50 percent (27-for-56) from the field. Montevideo made only 30 of its 73 shots from the field (41 percent), but the main storyline was that the Cardinals were 20-for-28 from the free-throw line while Montevideo was 6-for-8.
Felt (14) and Bonebright (11) combined to score 25 points in the first half, where the Cardinals led by as much as 13. But Montevideo stormed out of the gates to start the second half and eventually grabbed an eight-point lead. Tyler Grey netted 14 of his team-high 19 points in the second half to get the Thunder Hawks back in it.
Aaron Marks, who scored 16 points, tied the game at 75-75 for the Cardinals with on a running jumper before Bonebright put Redwood Valley ahead for good with a free throw. The Cardinals outscored Montevideo 8-1 in the final 1:50 of play.
Grey had four of Montevideo's 10 three-pointers while Tramel Barnes trailed with 18 points.
