GRANITE FALLS -- Yellow Medicine East staged a late rally to overtake Lakeview 64-63 in a non-conference boys basketball game on Monday.
Down 54-45 with four minutes left, the Sting (2-0) picked up the defensive pressure to outscore the Lakers 19-9 down the stretch.
With 33 seconds left and still down by one, YME ran a play and got off a good shot that didn't fall. But Taylor Tollefson was fouled on the rebound and got two shots.
He made both to put his team up 64-63. Lakeview got a good look at the other end but missed and in a scramble for the ball it went off a Laker with 1.1 seconds left.
It was the opener for Lakeview, which beat YME at Cottonwood last year in the first meeting in many years of what could become a rivalry of two programs just 15 miles apart.

Kenton Johnson got 15 of his game-high 22 points in the second half. He also nabbed 11 rebounds and made three blocks. Dylan Hempel contributed 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Casey Luepke threw in 11 points and got eight rebounds and Shawn Neu hit a pair of treys on the way to nine points.
Lakeview's balanced attack included 15 points from Joe Bakker, 14 each from Chris Dahl and Derek Golbrerg and 11 points and seven rebounds by Zach Meyer.
Class A Lakeview plays in the Camden North Conference.
