Boys Basketball: Watertown-Mayer dumps BOLD in final

BIRD ISLAND -- Watertown-Mayer had three players score in double figures as the Royals drubbed BOLD 73-55 in the championship of the BOLD Invite Friday.

Josh Hoeft had 18 points, Derek Vanderlinde 17 and Zach Mochinski 10 to pace Watertown-Mayer (3-2).

Buffalo Lake-Hector rolled past McLeod Wet 56-32 in the third-place game.

BOLD (2-5) was led by Reid Neubauer's 15 points and four assists. Trent Nissen followed with 10 points and Craig Gartner nearly posted a double-double with nine rebounds and eight points.

Buffalo Lake-Hector evened its record at 3-3 after nearly outscoring McLeod West at the free-throw line alone. The Mustangs were 23-for-41 from the charity stripe while the Falcons made just eight field goals.

Joe Kubesh and Jacob Deal both had 13 points for the Mustangs while Andy Kalenberg pocketed seven steals to go along with his 11 points.

Hamline Invite Montevideo 74, Blaine 55

Montevideo found its bearings Friday, beating Blaine, 74-55, in the consolation semifinals.

Montevideo will face Park of Cottage Grove in the fifth-place game at 3 p.m. today at Hamline University.

The Thunder Hawks (5-1), who suffered their first loss Thursday to Class AAAA powerhouse Hopkins, matched up much better with Blaine, which is also a Class AAAA team.

"(The difference was) the overall level of play, the speed of the game," said Montevideo coach Steve Rohloff. "Hopkins played at a college level."

Montevideo didn't let down in the first half and held a 36-24 halftime advantage.

Tyler Grey led four Thunder Hawks in double figures with 18 points. Nolan Jaspersen followed with 14, Todd Bergeson had 11 and Tyler Ray 10.
