BRAINERD -- The Willmar Cardinals kept it close, but couldn't overcome the Central Lakes Conference boys hockey leader on Tuesday night.
Brainerd improved to 4-0 with a 5-2 win over the Cardinals.
Down 2-0 after one period, Rory Schneider and Joel Schendel scored second period goals to pull Willmar to within a goal of the lead each time.
"(Goaltender) Jon Mattison played very well and that was perhaps our best game," said Willmar coach Dan Tollefson.
Mattison made 32 saves as Willmar was outshot 37-21.
