WILLMAR -- When you are a new program and you don't shy from challenging established programs, there will be nights like this.
Redwood Valley proved unable to skate with the Willmar Cardinals Wednesday and absorbed a 13-2 kicking in the first round of the Willmar Boys Holiday Hockey Tournament.
This is the second varsity season for the Redwood Valley program, which is still looking for its first win, though it managed two ties last winter. They held Willmar to four goals a year ago when the same four teams played at Paynesville.
Joel Jonsson, the Swedish skater here for the school year, set the pace by scoring twice in the first minute. He would finish with four goals, giving him seven for the season.
Josh Aslesen supplied a goal and four assists.

The scorer's table had Willmar with 61 shots to nine for the visiting Cardinals, whose goals came from Cole Smith and Trevor Palusky.

Blake Williamson scored the only goal in the first period to put the River Lakes Stars up 1-0, but Prairie Centre rattled off four straight in the second period to take command of the game.
