Boys Hockey: Willmar skates to a 2-2 tie with St. Cloud Apollo

ST. CLOUD -- Willmar and St. Cloud Apollo battled to a 2-2 draw Tuesday night in Central Lakes Conference boys hockey.

Apollo's Joe Hartman's unassisted goal with 47 seconds left in regulation sent the game into the eight-minute overtime. Hartman's shot flicked off Willmar goalie Jeff Reed (29 saves), hit the right pipe and went in.

Both teams launched four shots on goal in sudden death.

"It was a good effort," said coach Reed Larson, whose team lost 5-3 to the Eagles in Willmar. "The defense was very strong, especially senior Alex Berghuis."

Tyler Wahl's team-leading 15th goal was the only score of the first period.

Richie Norris put Willmar up 2-0 six minutes into the middle stanza, a shorthanded goal assisted by Wahl. Steve Theis broke up Reed's shutout at 11:48 of the second.

Willmar (3-8-1, 7-13-1) is at Sauk Rapids Thursday.

Mike Dvorak and Zac Johnson scored goals for Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato and goalie Lucas Johnson stopped 25 of 26 shots on net as the Dragons beat the Knights of St. Michael-Albertville for their second straight win. After Dvorak and Zac Johnson scored in the opening six minutes, the defense did the rest.

St. Michael-Albertville had won four of its last five games coming into Litchfield's arena.
