Boys Hockey: Willmar turns back Marshall

PAYNESVILLE -- Josh Mead collected a hat trick and Ben Leitch picked up his first varsity win in net as Willmar avenged an earlier loss to Marshall by upending the Tigers 6-2 in the first round of the River Lakes Invitational Thursday.

The win also snapped a seven-game losing streak for Willmar, which will face River Lakes today at 8 p.m. in the second round.

Mead netted a goal in each period as the Cardinals (2-7) got the better of Marshall this time around after falling 4-2 last Friday in Willmar.

No other details were provided to the Tribune at press time.

The Dragons jumped out on Zac Johnson's goal at 4:46 of the first period, but Century scored four times in the second period to assume the upper hand.

Johnson scored his second-power-play goal in the second period to make ti 3-2.

Alex Sundin scored in the third period for Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato.
