MANKATO -- Mankato West scored two goals in the last minute of the first half and went on to drill the Willmar Cardinals 6-0 in boys playoff soccer Thursday.
The No. 2-seeded Scarlets advance to the semifinals of the Section 2A playoffs.
"They're an outstanding team," said Willmar coach Richard Courtney. "They're very athletic, and once they got up, they never stopped attacking."
It was 1-0 until the 38th-minute West drew a penalty kick, which it converted, and followed up with another goal with 30 seconds left in the opening half.
Willmar, which didn't get many good chances, was outshot 24-12. Willmar goalie Ethan Vogt was credited with 12 saves.

"Seniors Brad Leitch and Grant Kleven both had big matches for us," continued Courtney.
Willmar finished 1-1 in the playoff, upsetting higher-seeded Worthington 2-1 on Tuesday.
"This was a great group of kids to work with and be around," concluded the Willmar head coach.
