ALEXANDRIA -- The Willmar Cardinals and Alexandria fought to a 1-1 overtime tie in Central Lakes Conference boys soccer on Monday.

Goalie Steven Kluver kept Willmar in the night game in the first half with several difficult saves.

Willmar got the lead 8:30 into the first half. Matt Kroneberger whistled a shot off the post from 60 feet. It caromed to Trent Fader who found the back of the net on a shot from 25 feet in front.

Alexandria answered 45 seconds later on a Dirk Maloney shot that banged off Kluver's hands. Grady Reis made the crossing pass on a ball that the Willmar defense gave up on thinking it was rolling over the touch line.

Willmar played a stronger second half and had some sound chances in the two overtimes but couldn't beat Adolfo Nayor, the Alex keeper.

Willmar's seven wins leads the CLC, but Fergus Falls, which is here on Thursday, and St. Cloud Apollo have fewer losses so still lead the Cardinals in the standings.
