Brainerd drubs Willmar

BRAINERD -- Like a storm surge, the Brainerd swamped the Willmar Cardinals on Friday night.

Brainerd marched 99 yards with its first possession and went to crumble Willmar's upset ambitions 40-0 in Central Lakes Conference football.

The Cardinals (0-2, 0-3) will now look for their first win at homecoming next Friday against Little Falls.

The Brainerd army (110 players on the roster) got its second straight win after a 17-14 loss to St. Cloud Tech to open the season.

Five Warrior interceptions fueled the fire at Adamson Field.

However, the evening had a promising start for Willmar. Stevin Carlson busted 33 yards -- the Cardinals' longest rush of the season -- and Mark Dunham threw to wide receiver Kyle Hilding for 33 more yards and a first down at the Brainerd five. But four plays moved the ball only four yards.

Cody Ring scored on a 46-yard run and finish the game with 116 yards. Ring ran for another score and Ramey threw to Kyle Crocker for another and it was 21-0 at half.
