WILLMAR -- The Brainerd boys and girls swept the Section 8AAA True team titles on Thursday at the Hodapp track at Kennedy School.
It is the first time Willmar has hosted a True Team event, which is sponsored by the Minnesota State Track and Field Coaches Association. Winning teams qualify for the True Team state championships at Stillwater on May 16.
Each of the nine teams got three individual entrants per event and all 27 places are scored.
The Cardinals placed fourth in both the boys and girls events.
Willmar won the first event for boys when Zach Coquyt led off the 4x800 relay with a 1:59 split on the way to a winning time of 8:20.68.

The Cardinals' 4x200 got first with Haley Larson Brittney Anderson, Abby Switzer and Caitlin Fritz timed at 1:54.62.
Sarah Erickson tied with Jeri Johnson of St. Cloud Tech for the longest discus heave (117-4), but got second-place points on the tie-breaking best second toss (112-111). Brooke Feichtinger (9-0) finished runner-up in pole vault.
Brianna Fernholz won the 400 dash (58.96 handheld).
Andy Nicklawsky ran a career-best 4:24 in the 1,600 to take fourth.
