Buffalo Lake-Hector's Alstrom goes for 500th win tonight

Buffalo Lake-Hector volleyball coach Susan Alstrom will try for her 500th career coaching win tonight when the Mustangs travel to Wabasso to take on the Rabbits in a Tomahawk Conference match.

Buffalo Lake-Hector volleyball coach Susan Alstrom will try for her 500th career coaching win tonight when the Mustangs travel to Wabasso to take on the Rabbits in a Tomahawk Conference match.

Alstrom, in her 27th season, needed four wins this season to unofficially become the ninth coach in Minnesota history to reach the 500-win mark.

Currently, there are four coaches with over 600 wins.

Buffalo Lake-Hector is 3-6 this season. The Mustangs are without two starters -- senior right side hitter Tiffany Larson and junior middle hitter Kasey Peterson -- for the season with torn ACLs that occurred before the season.

Two other back row players -- Jordan Diem and Dawn Johnson -- recently returned from injuries after missing a few matches and Missy Mellies missed part of the team's match Tuesday night against Minnesota Valley Lutheran with back spasms.

"I've never had anything like this," remarked Alstrom. "But we're playing pretty well and having a lot of fun."
