NEW LONDON -- A fire was reported around 7:30 a.m. Thursday from the Peterson Bus Service, 302 Oak St. S. According to the incident report, the bus service reported that its south shed was on fire.
New London Fire Chief Sig Holme said lightning hit the gas line of the bus service's south shed and started a fire on the exterior of the building. After the department extinguished the fire, Holme said, some of the fire engines were sent back to the fire hall.
Shortly after, Holme said, the department had to call the engines back because another fire started on the outside of another shed of the bus barn. Again, lightning hit the gas line of the shed, Holme said. After the fires were extinguished, Holme said, the gas company was called in. The New London Fire Department cleared the scene at 9:15 a.m.
