SCHOOLS: Spending $380 million to train 70,000 more advanced placement teachers, especially in science and math. Bush said it is important to hit math and science harder in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades.
IMMIGRATION: Allowing more immigrants to fill high-technology jobs, which would require increasing the number of work-related visas Washington allows. Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty already has proposed the same concept.
Bush also would double federal investment in engineering and science research.
ETHANOL: New technology will go a long way to opening possibilities for new vehicles, including ones powered by fuel cells and gasoline-battery hybrid vehicles.
