Calvin R. Westphal

OMAHA, Neb. -- Calvin Roger Westphal, 82, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Willmar, died Friday at Methodist Hospital from natural causes following a stroke in September 2006.
The service will be held today at the Lutheran Church of the Master in Omaha. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Omaha.
Arrangements are by Heafeh-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler Funeral Home in Omaha.

He was born June 28, 1925, in Willmar to Malvin and Effie (Solverson) Westphal. He grew up in the Willmar community and graduated from Willmar High School in 1943.
He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946, serving on the aircraft carrier USS Lunga Point in the South Pacific. He was awarded five battle stars. Calvin attended Augsburg College and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in architecture.
He married Yvonne Lovold of Spring Grove in 1951. The family lived in St. Paul until 1968 when they moved to Omaha. He worked as a salesman in the concrete construction industry and later sold commercial businesses as an independent business broker.
He is survived by his wife; his daughters: Linda (and Gary) Karnes of Lincoln, Neb., Vicki (and Mark) Rittner of San Dimas, Calif., Susan (and Jack) Wisbon of Fort Collins, Colo., Julie (and Paul) Tomoser of Omaha, and Karen (and Don) McGhee of Silver City, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and siblings: Betty (and Bob) Peterson of New London, Maurice Westphal of Siren, Wis., Bruce (and Beryl) Westphal of New Brighton, and Craig (and Kathy Price) Westphal of Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
