OLIVIA -- Canby, ranked No. 2 in Class A, earned 21 points in the final four matches to stun BOLD/Buffalo Lake-Hector 38-22 Friday in a clash of non-conference wrestling powers.
BOLD/BLH, fifth in Class AA, had taken a 22-17 lead when Mark Pietig earned a 6-5 decision at 160 pounds. Canby then got three pins and a decision to remain unbeaten.
Tom Brenner at 119 notched the only pin for the Warriors, who also got decisions from Pat LeVassuer at 112 pounds, Chris Harmon at 130, Cole Neubauer at 135 and Mark Revier at 140.
BOLD's two-time state champion Shawn Plumley was honored before the match and given a long standing ovation. Plumley has been hospitalized since Aug. 3 after hitting his head in a motorcycle accident. He was escorted to the middle of the gym by his parents, Lynn and Kathy, and his sisters Kathy Jo and Korey.
Plumley, who won individual state titles in 2002 and 2003, also helped BOLD win a Class AA state team title in 2003. Several of his former teammates were on hand and presented him with a huge picture of him leaping into coach Tom Gruhlke's arms after he won his state title.
