ATWATER -- Carl Melvin Bjorklund, 88, of Atwater died Wednesday at Rice Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rosendale United Methodist Church in Atwater. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Samstad-Jensen American Legion Post 375 of Atwater.
Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Atwater Funeral Home.
He was born Sept. 20, 1919, south of Atwater, to Charles and Anna (Swerd Lusth) Bjorklund. He grew up and received his education in Atwater. From 1945 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Alice Johnson in 1961. They lived in the Atwater area. He was employed as a plumber for Holm Brothers Plumbing and Heating for more than 25 years.

He was a life member of the Rosendale United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Atwater American Legion and the Plumbers Union 15.
He is survived by one daughter: Cheryl (and Terry) Miller of Atwater; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1996 and one sister.
