Carrie De Roo

GLENWOOD -- Carrie De Roo, 94, of Glenwood died Thursday at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Brooten Community Church in Brooten. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten.

She was born July 31, 1913, in Middleburg, Iowa, to Henry and Johanna (Vander Stoep) Vande Griend. She grew up on a farm near Hull, Iowa, and attended school in Middleburg. After graduating from the eighth grade, she stayed home to help her mother, who had a heart condition, and to assist with farm chores.
She married Henry De Roo on July 16, 1931, near Middleburg. They lived on a farm near Hull until 1956 when they purchased a farm near Brooten where they farmed and raised livestock. Later in life they built a new home near the farm. They later moved to an apartment in Brooten. Some years later they moved to Park View Court in Glenwood, due to deteriorating health. Henry died in December of 2003. She eventually moved to the Glenwood Village Care Center.
She is survived by her children: Wilmer (and Wilma) De Roo of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Lloyd (and Dorothy) De Roo of Brooten, Allan De Roo of Luverne, Marvin (and Betty) De Roo of Cedar Grove, Wis., Joan De Jongh of Luverne, Carmen (and Don) VanZee of Sunburg, Sharon Melin of Willmar, and Connie (and Herm) TeBrake of Brooten; 38 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons-in-law: Preston De Jongh and Donavon Melin; a great-granddaughter; four brothers; and two sisters.
