CANBY -- Catherine Mary "Kate" Jelen, 97, of Canby died Wednesday at the Sanford Hospital in Canby.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo. Burial will be in the church cemetery
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 and rosary to follow, at Birk Funeral Home in Canby and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

She was born March 27, 1910, in Omro Township, Yellow Medicine County, to Michael and Elizabeth (Lanners) Schmitt.
She married Edmund Jelen on Feb. 18, 1941, in St. Leo. They moved to a farm two miles west of St. Leo, where they lived until 1974 when they moved into a home they built in St. Leo.
She was a lifetime member of St. Leo Catholic Church, CCW and a 77-year member of Catholic Aid Association.
She is survived by her three children: Ralph (and Paulette) Jelen of St. Leo, Virgil Jelen of St. Leo, Eunice (and Mike) Full of Lakeville; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers: Ted (and Gabe) Schmitt of Dawson, John (and Mary) Schmitt of St. Leo and Wilfred (and Gerry) Schmitt of Dawson; and sister: Sister Laura Schmitt of Mankato.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001, two sisters and one brother.
